The Land Whale is the unofficial name given to a land creature found throughout the World. Referred to as "Space Giraffe-Tick-Penguin-Whale Thing" in the official patch notes for the launch of Early Access.
Appearance/Sounds[ | ]
The Land Whale looks like a whale from a distance (hence the name) however a closer look reveals a bird-like beak and head with small eyes, indicating that it may not have poor eyesight[citation nécessaire]Land Whale Long-legs/doc. It has 4 very long legs which it uses to move, since they can often be found wallowing in one of the many lakes dotting the map, it is thought that they use their long legs to hold themselves out of the water while they explore these lakes. The land whale will occasionally make noises that sound similar to water dwelling whales found on earth.
Occasionally it will raise itself onto its hind legs and then drop back down.
Behavior[ | ]
The Land whale is a passive creature. It will not attack the Engineer and will not run away when approached. If attacked by an engineer, it will attempt to gallop away from the engineer before settling down again a short while after. After it is killed, its corpse will act like a jump pad if jumped upon.

Drops[ | ]
The land whale drops an Alien Carapace when killed, but since it appears under its corpse, and the corpse bounces the engineer back when touched, engineer will have to wait for it to disappear before the Alien Carapace can be picked up. (~2min)
Tips[ | ]
- Considering the large amount of health and the wait time before picking the loot, the land whale is not a good target to farm Alien Carapace.
